“We got some quality bowlers”, Scott Edwards on Playing Against PAK in World Cup 2023

Babar Azam-led Pakistan will play the second game of the ICC men’s ODI World Cup 2023 against Scott Edwards-led Netherlands on October 6 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Interesting Facts

  • Bas de Leede’s father Tim de Leede played in the first three World Cups that the Netherlands played in (1996, 2003 & 2007). They will become the seventh father-son pair to feature in World Cups.
  • Pakistan has played only two ODI World Cup games in India and has lost both – to India in the in 1996 quarterfinal in Bengaluru and the 2011 semifinal in Mohali.
  • Pakistan is the second least experienced team in the tournament, with only Babar Azam having featured in 100+ ODIs

Both teams will play their first game of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 today and will focus on starting their campaign with a victory.

With seven of their top players missing the last time they took the field in an international contest, the best of Netherlands should be available finally.

Fakhar Zaman was struggling against the full-pitched moving delivery early on in recent games as well as in the nets. Logan van Beek’s skills could come in handy to exploit that weakness and give the team a strong kick-on in the innings

If there is one spin department that has fared worse than Pakistan in the current World Cup cycle, it’s the Netherlands’ spin attack.

Having conceded at an average of 53.43, Pakistan’s middle order would look to dominate against them through the middle overs, a period where they have a tendency to slow down.

In the first game of the tournament, New Zealand beats England by 9 wickets and moves to the top of the points table with an NRR of +2.149.

Winning the toss, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards said “We will bowl first, might get a little bit easier under lights. We got some quality bowlers and spinners who can bowl in the powerplay. For us it’s about adjusting and see how the pitch is playing”.
