India is scheduled to play their first match of the World Cup against Australia on October 8 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The player Shubman Gill has been suffering from illness since his travel to Chennai. His health issues have added trouble to India’s concerns before the match against Australia.

Shubman Gill did not take part in the Indian team’s practice sessions on Thursday and due to that, a rumor has been spread that Ishan will be opening for the side alongside the skipper Rohit Sharma.

According to Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul will be playing in the middle order and hence he will not be playing as an opener. According to the BCCI statement, Shubman Gill has had a high fever since landing in Chennai. His tests are being done. He will have tests on Friday and a call will be taken on his participation in the opening game.”

After the medical team reports, “He’s certainly feeling better today,” Dravid said on Friday.

“The medical team is monitoring on a daily basis. We have 36 hours, we’ll see what decision they take. He’s certainly feeling better today.”

While speaking to the media he said that the medical team has not yet ruled him out and the player is still arguing to play.

“The medical team hasn’t ruled him out as yet,” Dravid said. “We’ll keep monitoring him on a day-to-day basis. We’ll see how he feels the day after tomorrow.”

Suffering from high temperature, he was tested for dengue and if so, he will be missing a few games. A person suffering from dengue will take around 7 to 10 days to recover physically. Shubman Gill might feel weak even after recovery and need extra time to regain his fitness.

Shubman being known as one of the destructive batters has been performing well in recent matches. His impressive knocks of 74 and 104 in the ODI series against Australia helped the side win the series.

His current form with his ability makes him a threat to opponent bowlers. Several cricket experts and analysts backed him to be the leading runscorer in the World Cup despite his World Cup debut.

He was second in the ICC ODI batter’s rankings next to Babar Azam. He has 839 ranking points with only less than 20 points behind Babar Azam.
