The Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the upcoming Test series on India’s tour of South Africa 2023. India is scheduled to play in three-match ODIs, T20Is, and a two-test match series in the South Africa tour.
Ruturaj Gaikwad sustained a finger injury during the second ODI match and was rested during the third ODI match. Rajat Patidar was named as the replacement for the player in the decider match where India won the series 2-1.
On this occasion, the BCCI has revealed an update on the player’s injury. “(He) hasn’t fully recovered from the blow he sustained to his ring finger while fielding in the second ODI. He remains under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” said the BCCI statement.
On the other hand, Indian star Virat Kohli had to miss the intra-squad game in Pretoria to fly back to Mumbai for an emergency. With the details of the emergency hasn’t been revealed yet, the BCCI sources have confirmed that the Indian star will be on time to play the opening game.
Mohammed Shami was ruled out due to his ankle injury. Ishan Kishan also rested for the upcoming Test series. Other players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are waiting to feature in the Test series along with Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur.
Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj sat out the entire three-match ODI series, which concluded on Thursday. Sanju Samson scored his maiden ODI century for India to take the visitors to a 2-1 ODI series victory at Boland Park.
India will be playing their first test match against South Africa starting on December 26 at SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium.
