Melbourne Renegades Signs Tammy Beaumont: England opening batter Tammy Beaumont has joined Melbourne Renegades for the Women’s Big Bash League 2023.
Melbourne Renegades Signs Tammy Beaumont for WBBL 2023
Beaumont’s signing is not a surprise after the England opener had opted out of the WBBL overseas draft.
A total of 122 players were registered for the inaugural WBBL overseas draft. The first edition of the WBBL 2023 Overseas Draft was scheduled to take place on September 3.
Players unsure about entering the draft due to the uncertainty of where they might play or being overlooked entirely were given the option of directly nominating themselves to play for a WBBL club without being part of the draft. The choice came at a cost with the players only eligible to be paid 95% of the silver category salary, equating to AU$61,750.
Beaumont joins West Indies captain Hayley Matthews and India captain Harmanpreet Kaur as the Renegades’ international signings.
As per WBBL 2023 schedule, the first match of the season will be played between Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Stars Women at North Sydney Oval, Sydney. A total of 57 matches will be played during the WBBL 2023 edition with the final game on December 2.
“I’m excited to be returning to the Big Bash this summer and to be back in red with the Renegades. Melbourne’s a great place to play cricket and there’s some familiar faces still at the club who I’m looking forward to playing alongside again,” Beaumont said.
“It looks like a strong squad on paper, and with the additions of Hayley and Harmanpreet at the Draft, hopefully, we can be there at the business end of the season”, she added.
Melbourne Renegades General Manager, James Rosengarten said “Tammy has a wealth of experience, is in great form with the bat and will be a fantastic addition to our group this season. Before the Draft, we set out to bolster our batting line-up in particular, so to have Hayley, Harmanpreet and Tammy on board for WBBL|09 certainly achieves that goal.”
Beaumont played for Renegades previously in 2019 before having three seasons with Sydney Thunder, including playing in their 2020 title success. She started her WBBL career at Strikers, playing three seasons there between 2016 and 2018.
