The aggressive batter Virat Kohli has surpassed the Master Blasters record of 49 ODI centuries during the match against New Zealand in the semifinals of the ICC tournament in 2023.

Named as next Sachin, Virat Kohli’s records surpassed multiple records by his idol. He also broke Tendulkar’s records at the Wankhede Stadium where he scored 771 runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. Previously Sachin Tendulkar had 673 runs during 2003.

Virat Kohli achieved this feat during the 41st over of their innings in World Cup semifinals. He scored his 50th ton in his 279th innings.

He has eight 50+ scores in the tournament and surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Shakib Al Hasan who has seven fifties in a single World Cup edition.

He celebrated his century with fist punches in the air and a big smile on his face. He got on his knees and thanked the almighty. He then removed his kit-like helmet and gloves and bowed down in the field showing his respect to his idol Sachin.

He surpassed the Sachin records of having the most centuries in ODIs. He broke the records in front of the cricket legend himself. The whole stadium roared with joy and applauded the star for his prominent 50th ODI century.

The Master Blaster was impressed by Virat’s century applauding him for his efforts and shared his happiness on breaking his record on home ground.

“The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player,” Sachin posted on X.

He added, “I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage – in the World Cup Semi-final – and at my home ground is the icing on the cake.”

His wife Anushka Sharma, Master Blaster, and David Beckham were in the stadium supporting and praised for his record in cricket history.

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal congratulated the cricket for his record. He took X (Twitter) to praise the player saying, “King Kohli scripts history. Proud moment for your idol Sachin Tendulkar & the whole country.”

Running an unbeaten streak in the current edition of the World Cup, India set up a huge target of 398 against New Zealand at Mumbai Stadium.
