ICC Men’s Player of the Month for November 2023
Australia’s World Cup-winning player Travis Head became the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for November 2023 for his impressive run in the World Cup campaign.
Head beat the competition between the trio selected as the November 2023 Player of the Month nominees. Fellow teammate Glenn Maxwell scored a double century during the match against Afghanistan, while Mohammed Shami ran a stint with the highest wicket-taker in the World Cup 2023.
He was impressive during the 1st World Cup semifinal where India beat New Zealand and reached finals. He whooped seven wickets during the match which became his best figures in ODIs.
The 29-year-old paid tribute to his teammates for their help in his journey over the last year.
“It’s been an incredible 12 months for the team which it has been a real privilege to be a part of. The way we have navigated a home summer, away trips to India, England, South Africa, India, and the World Cup has been a great credit to Pat, the players and the staff,” Head said.
“I was fortunate that they kept the faith in me for the World Cup after breaking my hand, so it was a great opportunity for me to pay them back. I felt the World Cup was amongst the best I have ever batted, so maybe having a rest before every campaign is the key.
“It’s a great honor to be recognized with this award, but it is a team effort. Without my team-mates across all formats, this wouldn’t have happened; so these types of awards are as much for them as they are for me.”
He had his best knocks during November on the World Cup Campaign where they struggled. He won the Player of the Match award in the semifinals and finals of the ODI World Cup.
During the 2nd World Cup semifinal match against South Africa, he claimed the wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen. This helped them to restrict the Proteas to a low score. He smashed an aggressive score of 62 for 48 balls.
During the pursuit of chasing 241 runs target in the World Cup finals Australia struggled as they lost 3 wickets for 47 runs. But Travis Head had a brilliant knock of 137 runs including 15 fours and four sixes and helped the side to claim its sixth World Cup title.
Travis Head is the second Australian player after David Warner to win the Player of the Month award, who won it in November 2021. On the other hand, the Bangladeshi cricketer Nahida Akter has been announced as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for November 2023.
