“It’s Pretty Disappointing”, Rohit on Losing T20 WC 2022 Semi Final

Every Indian cricket fan was left heartbroken right after the team lost the second semi-final match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 against England at Adelaide Oval.

Though the Indian cricket team scored a decent run while batting they failed to defend the target with poor bowling. Winning the toss England choose to field first where Indian openers failed to lay the expected foundation where India loses their first wicket for 9 runs.

Soon after KL Rahul’s dismissal, Rohit too lost his wicket for 27 runs while the much-expected Suryakumar Yadav scored just 14 runs and returned to Pavillion. Post the top order failure, Hardik and Virat Kohli joined hands and scored a 61 runs partnership which leads India to score 168 runs at the end of the 20 overs.

After the loss, India skipper Rohit Sharma pointed out the reasons behind the loss.

“It’s pretty disappointing how we turned up today. I thought we still batted pretty well at the back end to get to that score, but we were not good enough with the ball. It was definitely not a wicket where a team can come and chase it down in 16 overs. With the ball we didn’t turn up today,” Rohit Sharma said after the loss.

“When it comes to knockout stages, it’s all about handling the pressure. Depends on the individual as well.

You can’t teach anyone to handle pressure. When these guys play the playoffs in the IPL and all that, those are high-pressure games, and they’re able to handle it. The way we started with the ball was not ideal. We were a little nervy, but you have to give credit to the openers as well. They played really well.

“When Bhuvi bowled the first over it swung today, but not from the right areas. We wanted to keep it tight, not give room, because square of the wicket was an area we were aware of – that’s where the runs came today.

If we keep it tight and the batsman still score runs, we’ll take it. But we didn’t do that today. In the game against Bangladesh it was tricky as well, but I thought we held our nerve that day, executed well.”

On the other hand, England scored the target without losing a wicket where Jos Buttler scored 80 runs while Alex Hales scored 86 runs. England will now face Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 final on November 13 at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.
