Winning always gives confidence, especially when it comes in the first game of the tournament. Boys are keen to maintain the performance today as well. There is always room for improvement. New Zealand Batting
Guptill and Daryl Mitchell get into the crease to lead New Zealand while Shaheen Afridi opens the bowling attack.
Shaheen continues his aggressive performance with a maiden first over while New Zealand openers make a slow start. At the end of the 5 overs, New Zealand scored 36 runs for no wickets loss.
In the followed over Haris Rauf draws the first blood by dismissing Guptill for 17 runs. At the end of the first 6 overs, New Zealand scored 42 runs for 1 wickets loss. Pakistan bowlers starts to raise the pressure over the New Zealand players by restricting the run-rate per over.
Imad Wasim dismissed Daryl Mitchell for 27 runs and breaks the partnership. Soon in the followed over Hafeez dismissed Neesham for 1 run and loads the pressure over the New Zealand players.
Williamson and Conway build a decent partnership and are expected to lead New Zealand to a descent run target. Williamson turns down NZ’s expectations and got dismissed via run out while scoring 25 runs.
The followed New Zealand batsmen struggled to build a partnership and wind up the innings after scoring 134 runs for 8 wickets loss at the end of 20 overs.
Pakistan Batting
Rizwan and Babar Azam gets into the crease to chase down the target of 134 runs while Santner opens the bowling attack.
New Zealand needs to make quick wickets in order to restrict Pakistan from scoring quick runs in the powerplay. But Pakistan openers makes it smooth and scored 28 runs for no wickets loss at the end of the 5 overs.
In the 6th over Southee dismissed Babar Azam for 9 runs and draws the first blood for Pakistan. But Rizwan still stands out in the crease for some destruction.
New Zealand bowlers focus on restricting the Pakistan players from building a Partnership. Ish Sodhi as expected dismissed Fakhar Zaman for 11 runs while Mohammad Hafeez loses his wicket to Santner while scoring 11 runs.
In the 11th over Mohammad Rizwan too loses his wicket after scoring 33 runs. The pressure starts to build over Pakistan players and in need to build a match-winning partnership.
Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali make it as expected and lead Pakistan to register their second victory of the Super 12 group matches by beating New Zealand by 5 wickets.

I am happy with the performance, thanks to the team, the fielding unit, they supported the bowlers, the support staff and the fans for all the support they’ve given us.
There’s competition in the bowling unit, we have been playing together for two years, myself, Shaheen and Hasan Ali. We talk with each other, assess the conditions and we do get confidence from each other.
The wicket of Guptill in the powerplay was the best amongst the four wickets. Thankful to everyone, my family, the way Lahore Qalandars supported me, I’m here today because of them.
