South African cricketer Tristan Stubbs has been signed by Durham for the upcoming T20 Blast 2023.

As per T20 Blast 2023 schedule, the tournament will kickstart from May 20 with a doubleheader match – Birmingham Bears vs Yorkshire Vikings; Derbyshire Falcons vs Lancashire Lightning at Edgbaston.

Tristan Stubbs comes under the spotlight after his aggressive 28-ball 72 runs against England in his maiden T20I innings. Tristan Stubbs who made his international debut for the South Africa cricket team in June 2022 has played 11 T20 international matches and scored 149 at an average of 24.83.

Tristan Stubbs made his Twenty20 debut on 21 February 2021, for Warriors in the 2020–21 CSA T20 Challenge and played 39 T20s and scored 814 runs at an average of 28.06.

Tristan Stubbs was also a member of the squad which lifts the inaugural edition’s SA20 league trophy. Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape locked their horns to play the final match where Sunrisers Eastern Cape beats Capitals by 4 wickets and lifts the maiden trophy.

“I’m really excited to join Durham for the T20 Blast this summer,” Stubbs said. “I have spent some time with Brydon (Carse) during the winter and he’s only had good things to say about the club. I can’t wait to get over to Durham and meet up with my new teammates. Having played in England last summer I know how much the fans love their cricket so it should be a really fun and successful summer.”

“We are extremely pleased to have secured the signing of Tristan Stubbs,” Director of Cricket, Marcus North said. “At 22, he already has experience playing for South Africa and in major T20 franchise leagues around the world where he has produced some world class performances.”

In May 2022, the Mumbai Indians added Stubbs to their squad for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), replacing Tymal Mills who was ruled out due to an injury. Ahead of IPL 2023 Auction, Mumbai Indinas retained the wicket-keeper batter Tristan Stubbs for INR 20 Lakhs.
