de Kock on victory against Bangladesh
South Africa is scheduled to play against Bangladesh in the 23rd World Cup match on October 24 at Wankhede Stadium. Winning the toss, South Africa chose to bat where Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks opened the innings while Mustafizur opened the bowling attack.
The Opener Quinton de Kock had an impressive knock of 174 runs on 140 balls including 15 boundaries and 7 sixes and was sent out by Hasan Mahmud.
Quinton de Kock’s score is the highest individual score on Indian soil in World Cups. He surpassed David Warner’s 163 runs he amassed during the match against Pakistan in Bengaluru on October 20.
With his third century out of five matches Quinton de Kock went past AB de Villiers for the most centuries in the single tournament by a South Africa batter.
With the dismissal of Reeza Hendricks and van der Dussen, Aiden Markram scored 60 runs including 7 boundaries while Klaasen scored 90 runs on 49 deliveries. By the end of 50 overs, South Africa scored 382 runs losing 5 wickets.
With the target of 383 runs, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das opened the innings but were dismissed for low scores. With the dismissal of Shanto, Shakib, and Rahim, the top order collapsed for 58 runs on the 15th over.
Mahmudullah scored 111 runs including 11 boundaries and four sixes. Other batters were sent out with low figures by South African bowlers. Gerald Coetzee dismissed three wickets while Marco Jansen, Lizaad, and Rabada dismissed two wickets each.
On the 47th over, Bangladesh scored 233 runs losing all the wickets and losing the match with 149 runs difference. While speaking at the post-match conference de Kock said, “To be honest, I am a bit more tired than satisfied (after a spectacular knock), I think we all played really well and everyone did their part and it was nice to get those two points on the board.”
“Not just too sure, it is just happening I guess (speaking about his conversion rate in India). I was a little nervous this morning, but it was a great day and I had a bit of fun and it’s great to get another 2 points.”
“He (Klaasen) has been truly amazing, I also need some of the juice that he is having. He has just been special, not just for us but for everyone around the world. He is really taking it by storm and I am very happy for him,” he concluded.
South Africa will be playing their next match against Pakistan on October 27 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
