In the third ODI match between West Indies and England, there was a disagreement between West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph and team captain Shai Hope about field placement. After finishing his over, Joseph left the field visibly upset.
West Indies Head Coach Darren Sammy called Joseph’s behaviour “unacceptable,” saying, “We’re friends, but in the culture, I’m building, that’s unacceptable. We’ll have a talk about it.”
Joseph returned to the field at the start of the sixth over but didn’t bowl again until the 12th. He bowled two overs, then left the field again after two fielding errors led to extra runs for England. Later, he came back to bowl two overs in the middle of the innings and finished his last three overs toward the end, ending with figures of 2 for 45 from 10 overs, dismissing Cox and Dan Mousley.

Appointed as West Indies head coach in May 2023, Sammy is known for his strong leadership and ability to manage players well. He has also convinced players like Andre Russell and Evin Lewis to rejoin the team. Sammy emphasized that he’s willing to have difficult but necessary conversations with players to help the team move in the right direction.
“Seeing the team progress step-by-step makes me proud,” Sammy said. “There’s still a lot to do, but I’m passionate about it.”
