SA20 2025 Retained Players List For All Teams

SA20 2025 Retained Players: The third edition of the Betway SA20, a franchise T20 cricket league in South Africa is scheduled to take place between 9 January 2025 and 8 February 2025.

As of last season, the SA20 2025 will also follow a Double round-robin and playoff format where a total of 34 matches will be played between six teams based in cities around the country.

SA20 2025 Retained Players

As per the existing rules, all teams in the SA20 2025 league are required to include 19 players, with a minimum of 10 South African players, a maximum of seven international players, the new Rookie South African player, and a Wildcard player.

SA20 2025 Auction Process

The Salary Cap – Each season, teams are given a salary cap to spend on players. For season 2, the salary cap has been increased by R 5.1 million to R39.1 million per team. The salary cap for SA20 2025 will be updated here right after the official announcement.

Player slots – Each team has 19 player slots in the final squad. 1 Wildcard, 1 Rookie player, and the balance of 17 players. Minimum 10 SA players, Maximum 7 overseas players.

What is Rookie Player in SA20 Auction – A South African player aged 22 or younger on the day of the auction who is new to the Betway SA20 League.

What is a Wildcard? – This is a local or international player whose fee is excluded from the Salary Cap.

How do teams free up player slots?

  • South African players – All SA players bought at auction in Season 1 were on 2-year contracts. Teams had the option to retain, trade or buy out these players.
  • Overseas players – Overseas players could be released or retained.

After this, teams will have their preliminary squads and this determines the number of player slots and purse available at the auction. Post the auction, squads will be finalised for Season 3.
