Fastest fifty in World Cup history
Kusal Perera scored a half-century during the World Cup 2023 against New Zealand in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He reached the milestone of 22 balls which is the second fastest by a Sri Lankan in World Cup history.
He joins the former player Dinesh Chandimal who achieved this feat during the match against Australia in World Cup 2015. The all-rounder Angelo Mathews had the fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan during the World Cup 2015.
Kusal Perera was dismissed for 51 runs in 28 deliveries by Lockie Ferguson which included 9 fours and 2 sixes. He scored his fifty in just 7.3 overs and set a World Cup record for hitting a fifty earlier in their innings. He broke the record of David Warner record who smashed the fifty in 7.4 overs.
Despite his impressive knock, Sri Lanka lost the match in Bengaluru stadium. He broke the records of Australian player Travis Head and his fellow Player Kusal Mendis who achieved this feat with 25 balls.
Australian opener Travis Head scored a half-century during the match against New Zealand in Dharamsala. Sri Lankan player Kusal Mendis achieved the same feat during the match against South Africa at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
