On November 5, 2022, Former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez announced that he will not be representing the Qalandars in the upcoming eighth edition of the PSL. In place of Hafeez, Lahore Qalandars bagged all-rounder Sikandar Raza as his replacement player.
“Lahore Qalandars has picked Sikandar Raza as a replacement for Mohammad Hafeez. Sikandar has become very effective with the ball with the change in his action where he hides the ball. Sikandar has been superb with his performances since last two years,” said Aaqib Javed.
Pakistan Cricket Board released the PSL 2023 schedule on January 20, 2023 where the first match of the tournament is scheduled to be played between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars on February 13 at Multan Cricket Stadium. A total of 34 matches will be played between 6 participating teams.
Hafeez played a prominent role in powering Lahore Qalandars to lift their maiden PSL title in the previous edition. He scored 323 runs in 13 matches and also claimed six wickets.
