With the IPL 2024 auction scheduled for December 19, five players could cause a bidding war in Dubai.
Players who could be most expensive in IPL 2024 auction
The IPL 2024 auction is one of the most awaited events that would fetch big value for players for the upcoming Indian Premier League. The BCCI has released the list of players who have been shortlisted 333 players out of the players who have registered for the IPL 2024 auction.
The mini-auction takes place every year before the tournament which allows franchises to rearrange squads and fill the available slots. The IPL franchises can release and retain as many players ahead of the mini-auction based on their requirements and previous year’s performance.
On this occasion, TOS has evaluated players who could raise their price values during the auction. Out of 333 registered players 214 are Indians and 119 players were from overseas.
The list can be further classified into 116 capped players and 215 uncapped players will be competing for the 77 slots available across all 10 franchises. The IPL 2024 auction can be seen by live streaming in TV channels.
Travis Head
Travis Head has registered for the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 2 crore. After his successful run in the World Cup campaign, the Australian star Travis Head will be one of the important players in the auction table.
After playing for two months including his brilliant performance at the World Cup 2023 on the Indian pitches, it would be tough for bowlers to bowl against him. He can also bowl which could be handy if the conditions are favourable to spinners.
Gerald Coetzee
The South African cricketer who has registered for a base price of INR 2 crore could be handy with his fast bowling skills in the upcoming IPL season. He was impressive over the last IPL season and proved that pace can also be handy in IPL.
Gerald Coetzee can bowl at the speed of 140 kmph and could take wickets in both upfront and death overs. He was the third-highest wicket-taker for South Africa in the recently concluded World Cup.
Rachin Ravindra
Rachin Ravindra is another player who could be sensational in the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. He has registered for the IPL 2024 auction with a base price of INR 50 lakhs.
Ravindra has showcased talents and skills in batting at the top and middle orders and has also been useful in the bowling department during the World Cup 2023 which could give him a chance to grab big money at auction.
He scored 578 runs in 10 matches and became the fourth-highest run-getter in the ODI World Cup. He could emerge as one of the most expensive players in the upcoming event in Dubai.
Mitchell Starc
After their side’s successful run in the World Cup campaign, the Australian bowler is set to return to IPL after 8 years. He made his last appearance in IPL during the 2015 edition where he played for Bangalore.
He is placed in the 28th place on the auction list, hence all franchises will be looking forward to saving money for late purchases. Mitchell Starc’s inclusion could strengthen the bowling unit of the franchise he’s been sold for.
Shardul Thakar
Indian players are always in demand at the IPL auction despite their place being more or less in the playing Xl squad. Out of those Shardul Thakur could also be one of the most expensive buys in the upcoming auction.
Having played for different franchises for five years, he has become experienced in playing in the Indian domestic league. Although he didn’t shine in his recent performance, he could be one of the expensive players in the upcoming event.
