The Afghanistan Cricket Board has confirmed the dates for the ODI series to be played in the Sri Lanka tour next month.
ODI series added to Afghanistan’s Sri Lanka tour
Afghanistan’s tour of Sri Lanka initially has one test and three-match T20I series but the Afghanistan Cricket Board had talks with SLC on adding three ODIs for the tour.
Afghanistan will play a one-off Test followed by three ODIs and three T20Is. After completing the Sri Lanka tour, they will head to UAE to play a three-match ODI and T20I series against Ireland.
They will be playing a three T20I series in Afghanistan’s India tour 2024 starting this week. Completing their tour in subcontinent, they will be heading to Sri Lanka.
The one-off Test will be played at the SSC in Colombo starting on February 02. The ODI series will be played at R. Premadasa Stadium between February 9 and 11. The teams will then travel to Dambulla to play the T20I series between February 17-21.
The series against Ireland begins with the Test which will be held from February 28 to March 03 in Abu Dhabi. The ODIs and T20Is will all be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Afghanistan and Ireland will play their ODI series between March 07 and 12 while the T20I series will be starting on March 15.
The tour of Sri Lanka initially included only the Test and the three T20Is but the ACB held talks with SLC to facilitate the addition of the three ODIs.
“The addition of these three ODIs is a significant move to ensure a complete and comprehensive tour which not only provides good exposure to Afghanistan Cricket but will also foster stronger relations between the two nations.”
“Playing Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka is always tricky but is a challenge that AfghanAtalan can easily embrace,” said ACB chairman Mirwais Ashraf.
ACB CEO Naseem Khan added, “The Year 2024 is a very busy and full of highly voltage competitions for the Afghanistan National Team which is a very good and positive sign for Afghanistan Cricket.”
“The upcoming tours of India, and Sri Lanka, and then the home series against Ireland will help us to prepare the team for the much-important T20 World Cup. Eagerly looking for the multiple series upfront.”
Afghanistan is scheduled to play a T20I series against India, and the first match will be played on January 11 at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.
