Bangladesh Cricket Team have handed a maiden call-up to top-order batter Zakir Hasan for the first Test against India scheduled to play on December 14 in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
Zakir Hasan Set To Make His Test Debut
Indian cricket team has been scheduled to tour Bangladesh to play 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches between December 4 – 26. Bangladesh have already sealed the ODI series after winning the first 2 ODIs.
The decision of including Zakir Hasan in the Test series comes after the unavailability of Tamim who is yet to recover from a groin injury.
Zakir Hasan was named player of the match in the first unofficial Test against India A and was the leading run-getter in the first-class competition.
“Our physio said he (Tamim) won’t be able to play in the first Test. But we are awaiting the medical report for the second Test. So, we’ve announced the squad for the opening Test,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told cricket media.
Pacer Taskin Ahmed, who is not part of the ongoing ODI series against India due to fitness issues, has been named in the Test squad.
On the other hand, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s inclusion in the Test series have not yet been confirmed and is still in oscillation following his injury that happened during the 2nd ODI.
The two-match Test series will be played on December 14, and December 22 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, and Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Notably, India will be playing their last Test match of the series while BCCI hosts the IPL 2023 players’ auction on December 23.
