England’s Rehan Ahmed Becomes Youngest Bowler To Take A Five-Wicket Haul On Test Debut

England’s debutant leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed becomes the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

Youngest Bowler To Take A Five-Wicket Haul On Test Debut

Rehan Ahmed surpassed Pat Cummins’ record and become the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut at the age of 18 years and 126 days. Pat Cummins at the age of 18 years, 193 days took 6/79 against South Africa back in 2011.

Rehan Ahmed achieved this feat in the 2nd inning of the 3rd Test. Rehan Ahmed dismissed Babar Azam(54), Saud Shakeel(53), Rizwan (7), Agha Salman(21), and Mohammad Wasim Jr(2) and rattled Pakistan’s middle order.

Winning the toss, Pakistan opted to bat first and scored 304 runs for 10 wickets loss where England’s Jack Leach bagged 4 wickets. England on the other hand scored 354 runs in their first inning where Abrar Ahmed and Nauman Ali bagged 4 wickets each.

Pakistan in their second inning struggled and scored just 216 runs where Rehan Ahmed scored his first 5 wicket haul and becomes the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut.

England in the 2nd inning scored 170 runs for 2 wickets loss and beats Pakistan by 8 wickets. With the loss, Pakistan moved to 7th position in the ICC WTC 2021-23 points table.

“The confidence and belief he’s (Rehan Ahmed) got to do what he does, he is not a finished article, but it is seriously exciting for England. I won’t forget that cap presentation. That experience itself was incredible. His Dad was so emotional and proud and I’m sure his Mum would be incredibly proud back home as well”, say Ben Stokes

Post the Pakistan victory, England will tour South Africa to play 3 ODIs in January 2023 across Mangaung Oval and Diamond Oval stadiums. While New Zealand will tour to Pakistan to play 2 Tests and 3 ODIS between December – January 2023.
