With the WPL 2025 retention list announced by all the five franchise, cricket fans will be eyeing on the annoucement of the WPL 2025 auction date and venue.

A total of 71 players, including 25 overseas stars, have been retained acros five franchises, securing team’s key players in the lineup for the upcoming season.

For the upcoming WPL season, the BCCI has increased purse value from INR 13.5 cr in 2024 to INR 15 crore for 2025 season.

This will allow teams to bid and potentially attract top players from both domestic and international countries.

WPL 2025 Auction Date

The date and venue for the mini auction is yet to be confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. However, it is expected to take place next month as the teams have finally submitted their retentions on Thursday.

The WPL 2025 is likely to start in the last week of February 2025, and the schedule is also expected to be announced early next year. The third season of the tournament will see 22 matches played across the tournament, with each team playing each other twice.

The top team in the league stage will automatically qualify for the WPL 2025 final. The teams finishing second and third will face off in an eliminator match, with the winner advancing to the final to challenge the league leader.

Impressed by the popularity of WPL 2024, the league might consider expanding the schedule or introducing new franchise to maintain the intensity. Additionally, hosting matches in new venues across the country could possible expand the league’s reach and attract a wider audience.
