Sri Lanka scored 531 runs in 1st innings of the 2nd Test vs Bangladesh

The second test of the series was scheduled to be played between March 30 and April 3 in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. A total of 2 tests were scheduled to play during the series where Sri Lanka won the 1st test by 328 runs and took the lead in the 2 match test series.

To avoid a series loss, the hosts need to win the 2nd test but Sri Lanka’s massive lead in the 1st innings brings down a great burden to the task.

3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests were scheduled to be played during the tour where Sri Lanka won the T20I series by winning the 1st and 3rd matches. In response, Bangladesh won the ODI series by winning the same pattern of matches as Sri Lanka.

Speaking on the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first where Nishan Madushka and Karunaratne opened the inning. The Sri Lankan opening duo laid a decent foundation by adding 96 runs for the 1st wicket.

With 4 runs for the 100 runs mark, Nishan Madushka lost his wicket for 57 runs via run out. Following his dismissal, Kusal Mendis on partnering with Karunaratne adds 114 runs for the next wicket.

Hasan Mahmud broke the well-settled partnership by dismissing Karunaratne for 86 runs. For the next wicket, Mathews on partnering with Kusal Mendis scored 53 runs before Shakib dismissed Kusal for 93 runs.

With a decent contribution from the middle-order batters, the visitors scored 531 runs for 10 wickets whereas Kamindu Mendis remains unbeaten for 92 runs. Notably, none of the batters have scored a century in Sri Lanka’s 500+ run-scoring match.

On behalf of Bangladesh, Shakib bagged 3 wickets while Hasan Mahmud bagged a couple of wickets. Khaled Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz each bagged a wicket but Taijul Islam went wicketless in Sri Lanka’s high-scoring inning.

On the other hand, the Bangladeshi batters failed to give the expected start for the team. Lahiru Kumara dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy for 21 runs and broke the opening partnership for 47 runs.

At the end of Day 2, the hosts scored 55 runs for 1 wicket loss where Zakir Hasan and Taijul Islam stands at the crease with 28 and 0 runs respectively.
