Left-handed batter Mark Chapman has been named as the replacement player for Williamson while experienced bowler Tim Southee will captain New Zealand in the final T20I match against India.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead insisted the medical appointment that Williamson will attend had nothing to do with his lingering elbow issue and the 32-year-old will re-join the squad ahead of the ODI series that commences in Auckland on Friday.
“Kane’s been trying to get this booked in for a while now, but unfortunately it hasn’t been able to fit into our schedule. The health and well-being of our players and staff is paramount, and we look forward to seeing him in Auckland,” Coach Gary Stead said.
Indian cricket team under Hardik Pandya has been scheduled to tour New Zealand to play 3 matches T20I series where India leads the series with a victory in the second match while the series opener was abandoned due to rain.
In the second T20I match India beats the host New Zealand by a massive 65 runs difference. Notably, Kane Williamson scored the team’s best by scoring 61 runs off 52 balls.
The third and final T20I match of the series will be played on November 22 in McLean Park, Napier.
Tim Southee led New Zealand will keen to win the last T20I match to avoid a series defeat. Stead said Chapman was excited to be back with the squad after featuring in the recent T20 World Cup and Tri-Series in Christchurch.
“He’s a quality player who offers good versatility in the order,” said Stead.
Kane Williamson will join the squad ahead of the first ODI on Friday in Eden Park, Auckland. Shikhar Dhawan will lead the Indian cricket team in the 3-match ODI series.
