Despite having sustained a back injury, Jasprit Bumrah has been included in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
On January 18, BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy with Rohit Sharma being named as captain while Shubman Gill was named as his deputy.
Will Jasprit Bumrah play in CT 2025?
Bumrah’s availability for the Champions Trophy will be determined in early February. Bumrah sustained a back injury during the fifth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and did not bowl in the second innings of the test.
His selection will be revealed after being subjected to his fitness test and if he fails to attain full fitness, he won’t play.
He is likely to miss the initial matches of the Champions Trophy and Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement in the ODI squad for England series.
As per BCCI’s selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar, Bumrah will likely to miss the first two ODIs against England. Therefore India have included Harshit Rana as his backup for the home series.
Agarkar confirmed that the 31 year old will be missing couple of matches during England ODIs.
“Bumrah has been told to off-load for five weeks after and he won’t be available for the first two ODIs against England. We are waiting on his fitness and will know his status in early February from the medical team.”
“We’ll probably find out a bit more around that time, what exactly, and with regards to what his medical condition is, I’m sure BCCI might just put something out, from the physio itself,” Agarkar said at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Indian preferred Arshdeep Singh over Mohammed Siraj for the Champions Trophy 2025 while Mohammed Shami found a place in the side.
Arsdheep Singh was picked due to his death over bowling skills in white ball cricket. If Bumrah fails to get fit in time, it will be interesting to see if India bring back Siraj as his replacement.
