With only less than 10 days available before the start of the IPL 2024 season, South African star AB de Villiers has revealed the IPL future of CSK captain MS Dhoni.
Will IPL 2024 be the final season for MS Dhoni?
MS Dhoni is set to make his return to the field during the IPL 2024 league where he will be leading the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings.
Despite suffering from a knee injury, he managed to lead the side to the victory to clinch their fifth title to level with five-time winner Mumbai Indians.
With MS Dhoni in his early forties, it was rumored that IPL 2023 would be his last season. But to fail all the rumours he is set to lead the side in IPL 2024 season.
On this occasion, the South African legend AB de Villiers quoted MS Dhoni as a “diesel Engine” that keeps on running and nobody knows when he will conclude his IPL career.
“There were a lot of rumors about MS Dhoni finishing up last year, that was not the case, ladies and gentlemen,” De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
“He would be back again. Will this be his final season? No one knows. He just seems to be this diesel engine that never ends. He keeps running. What an incredible player, what an incredible captain.”
AB de Villiers praised MS Dhoni, head coach Stephen Fleming, and players like Ravindra Jadeja for their team culture making them a more intimidating team.
“I believe it’s through their presence, it’s through the leadership of MSD, a calm coach in Stephen Fleming, senior players in Ravi Jadeja, and others who have set this incredible culture alive. They are a very intimidating team to play against. They are never easy to beat,” De Villiers said.
“That is always a great characteristic of a very successful unit, of a very successful franchise. When you are playing well, it’s, ‘Yes, no problem, no one’s gonna stop us’ but when you are not playing so well – they always find a way to compete,” he added.
De Villiers thinks that CSK is one of the most formidable teams in the IPL and won’t be under pressure to defend their title which makes them dangerous.
“They won last year. Yes, they want to defend their title but there’s almost no pressure on MSD and his troops and I think that makes them dangerous. Can they go back-to-back? They certainly have the ability,” he said.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to begin on March 22 with reigning champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore to feature in the first match of the season at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
