Ahead of the World Cup which is set to begin on October 5, Bangladesh bowler Ebadot Hossain will be racing against time to regain fitness before the tournament.

The 29-year-old right-fast bowler had suffered an ACL injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan and has not recovered yet after rehab. He was named in the Asia Cup squad but will be taking more time for his recovery.

Bangladesh pace bowler Ebadot Hossain’s participation in the World Cup remains uncertain as failed to regain his fitness before the 50-over tournament. The officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that the Board plans on sending Ebadot abroad to get a second opinion on his injury.

Ebadot was ruled out of the Asia Cup as he did not recover after rehabilitation. According to reports, the newly appointed Australian Physio and Rehabilitation manager will be joining Ebadot for a check-up session in England in the upcoming first week of the month.

“Ebadot had undergone six weeks of rehab following the injury. We have had multiple MRIs done during this time and the reports suggest that his ACL is still a concern and requires further management. Therefore, he misses out on the Asia Cup.”

“Considering the importance of the Bangladesh team’s next major event, which is the ICC World Cup in October, the BCB is committed to exploring every safe medical option available for getting Ebadot back to full fitness and playing as early as possible, including consultation and treatment overseas,” said Dr Chowdhury.

A BCB official said, “If he requires surgery, he will almost certainly miss the World Cup.” “The cricket board is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness.”

“While we’ve provided him with a workload, Ebadot has struggled to manage it effectively. His inability to cope with the intensity resulted in his exclusion from the Asia Cup squad,” added officials.

“Though there’s a chance he could manage it with two to three more months, time is a luxury we lack. The World Cup squad announcement is imminent, and the coach needs clarity on his condition to shape his strategies accordingly.”

Tanzim had scalped 57 list A wickets in 37 games, which includes the three matches of the Emerging Men’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka where he had scalped nine wickets in three matches. He also took 17 wickets for Abahani Limited to win the Dhaka Premier League Last season.

Tanzim is listed as the 9th member of the 2020 U19 World Cup winning side to get into the senior side. Other players like Towhid Hridoy, Shoriful Islam, Shamim Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan are the other four members making it to the squad from the U-19.

Bangladesh is set to have its first match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup on August 31, at Pallekele International Stadium, following a match against Afghanistan on September 3 at Gaddafi Stadium.
