BCCI planned to host the IPL 2024 Auction in Dubai on December 19 and set November 26 as the deadline for the teams to finalise their retained and released players list. Notably, this will be the first time an IPL auction is conducted overseas.
The IPL 2024 Auction will be preceded by the WPL 2024 Auction set to take place on December 9.

Will Ben Stokes Play IPL 2024 for CSK: England allrounder Ben Stokes was roped in by Chennai Super Kings for a whopping INR 16.25 crores in last year’s auction. Many expectations started to rise following his pick in the auction.
Even many predicted that Ben Stokes might replace MS Dhoni as the next CSK captain owing to his ability to lead a team.
CSK’s INR 16.25 crore pick in the 2023 auction made Stokes the third most expensive player in IPL history.
While massive speculation was raised around the allrounder, Stokes managed to play the first two games in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) and has been sidelined ever since.
In those two games, Stokes managed to score only 7 and 8 and conceded 18 runs in his only over he bowled and failed to create an impression in Yellow Jersey.
Stokes injured his toe during the training session ahead of the match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 8. Notably, Stoke’s knee injury prevented him from bowling in the IPL 2023 season.
He reportedly returned to the nets ahead of CSK’s match with Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 21, but following that clash coach Stephen Fleming confirmed he would be out for at least another week.
Many cricket experts predicted that CSK might release Ben Stokes and will make a valuable pick in the IPL 2024 Auction.
On November 23, Ben Stokes made himself unavailable for next year’s IPL which his franchise Chennai Super Kings confirmed.
Ben Stokes who reversed his ODI retirement and featured in World Cup 2023 in India will undergo a surgery on his left knee and will be on the road to recovery ahead of England’s highly-anticipated Test tour of India towards the end of January 2024.
Though Stokes will make his comeback in next year January, he decided not to participate in the IPL in order to manage his workload and fitness.
In simple terms, Ben Stokes will not play in IPL 2024 for Chennai Super Kings.
“I will hopefully be fine for the Test series [against India],” Stokes had said during the World Cup. “I am having surgery after the World Cup… There was a lot of time put into deciding when to get it done. The India Test series, which we start at the end of January, I should be fine to go by then.”
The franchise has now thrown their support behind the England player and his decision to skip next season.
“The Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024,” an official statement from CSK said.
On the other hand, CSK’s purse value pumped to a massive INR 28 crores after Stokes confirmed his unavailability. Ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction, BCCI increased the purse value of the franchises by INR 5 crores.

As of the previous season, BCCI allowed franchises to use the “TRADE” option where teams can exchange players between them. Romario Shepherd became the first player to be traded ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction.
According to the IPL committee rules, each franchise can have 25 players in their squad, out of which a maximum of 8 can be foreign players. In Playing 11, each team can have a maximum of 4 overseas players in the mix.
As of previous IPL Auctions, the eligible players need to enrol themself to feature in the IPL 2024 Auction Players List along with the released players list. As per a report, a total of 590 players have been shortlisted for IPL 2024 Auction.
