During the DC vs MI clash today, Prithvi Shaw and Gerald Coetzee are the two notable misses from their respective teams. As per the IPL 2024 schedule, Delhi Capitals were scheduled to host Mumbai Indians to play the 43rd match of the IPL 2024 on April 24 in Delhi.
Right after the toss, respective team captains listed their changes in their playing 11 for the game. Both teams made a shocking change in their playing 11. Delhi Capitals replaced Prithvi Shaw with Kumar Kushagra while Mumbai Indians replaced Gerald Coetzee with Luke Wood.
Apart from Shaw, Delhi Capitals also excluded their out-form-form player Anrich Nortje with Lizaad Williams. Many of the IPL fans know the exact reason for Anrich Nortje’s exclusion but Shaw’s absence raised the eyebrows of many.
Though exact reason was not revealed by the team captain, fans believe that his struggle with the bat might be the reason for Shaw’s absence. The 24-year-old Shaw has scored 185 runs from seven games at an average of 26.43 and a strike rate of 162.28.
On the other hand, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya said at the toss that the in-form Gerald Coetzee is suffering from a stomach bug and that is why he has been replaced by left-arm pacer Luke Wood in the playing XI. Wood played the first game of the season for Mumbai and bowled two overs for 25 runs without picking up a wicket. He will hope to fare better in his second outing with the five-time champions.
Winning the toss, Hardik Pandya said “Hardik Pandya: We’re going to bowl first. The ground is small. It’s better to bat second on a smaller ground. Every game is a new game, we make sure we are not out. We keep fighting and keep coming hard in each game. The mood is fine, happy chats, all is well. You should not really focus on what has happened in the past. Anyone can beat anyone. Our goal is to play our brand of cricket and put our best foot forward. Only one change, Coetzee has a stomach bug, Luke Wood comes in for him”.
While Rishabh Pant said “We were looking to bat first. I think it will get slower in the second innings. It has been amazing, we’re getting the kind of wickets we want. As a team we have to play well and we have been. This is something we talked about – how to control the innings. Bowling with the new ball and bowling at the death is difficult, one over here or there is making all the difference. Just one change, Prithvi Shaw misses out and Kumar Kushagra comes in”.
