Right after the announcement of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, a massive bustle broke in social media regarding the exclusion of KL Rahul from the squad.
While everyone expected KL Rahul to be included in the squad with Rishabh Pant as the primary wicketkeeper for the global event, the decision confused many cricket fans.
In a surprise move, BCCI picked Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant over KL Rahul who remained the front-runner for the role.
While questioned regarding the move in a press conference, Ajit Agarkar said “KL Rahul has been opening in the IPL. No doubt KL Rahul is a class and Incredible player. We were mainly looking for middle-order options.
But I feel Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are doing incredible and they are perfect for us. Samson can bat anywhere in the lineup. So, it was just about what we needed and not about who was better”.
In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, KL Rahul scored 406 runs in 10 matches he played for Lucknow Super Giants. He also scored 3 fifties at a strike rate of 142.96.
Speaking of the tournament, as per the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 schedule, India will play their first match of the tournament against Ireland on June 5 in Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.
