India men’s cricket team are wearing black armband on day 02 of the fourth test of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy on December 27 to honour former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who passed away on Thursday night.
Dr Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday at 09.51 PM IST at the age of 92 in Delhi at the AIIMS hospital after suddenly losing consciousness at his residence.
Manmohan Singh was the 13th Prime Minister and led a Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government for two terms from 2004 to 2014.
He was served as finance minister from 1991 to 1996 in PV Narasimha Rao’s government and is credited with the country’s economic liberalisation.
“The Indian team is wearing black arm bands as a mark of respect in the memory of former PM Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Rohit Sharma-led team are wearing arm bands on December 27 during the second day of the fourth test against Australia, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Australia made 311 runs while losing six wickets by the end of day 01 with Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, and Steve Smith scoring half centuries each while Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets for visitors on day 01.
India and Australia secured one victory each in the Perth and Adelaide test while the Gabba test resulted in a tie. The visitors secured a 295-run victory in Perth while Australia secured a 10 wicket victory in Adelaide.
Australia and India are placed in the 2nd and 3rd place in the WTC points table. Talking about the match, India and Australia are aiming to take a 2-1 lead in the series going into the fifth and final test at Sydney next week.
