Suresh Raina has made a major claim that Rohit Sharma is the next MS Dhoni in terms of captaincy after India sealed the victory in the fourth test of England’s tour of India 2024.

After India’s victory in the test series on a home tour against England, Suresh Raina has claimed that Rohit Sharma is the next MS Dhoni in captaincy.
The former cricketer has said that Indian captain Rohit is giving chances to youngsters like the former captain MS Dhoni. He feels the captain is on the right track and lauded him for his brilliance.
“He is the next MS Dhoni. He has done well. He has been giving a lot of chances to youngsters the way MS Dhoni did. I played a lot of cricket under MS Dhoni.”
“Sourav Ganguly supported his team a lot. Then MS Dhoni came and led from the front. Rohit is going in the right direction. He is a brilliant captain,” he said.
Rohit led the side to nine victories out of 15 appearances as a captain. It includes a series of victories in home tours against England (2024), Australia (2022/23), Sri Lanka (2021/22) and a home away tour against West Indies (2023).
They tied the test series on a home-away series against South Africa 2023/24.
Raina also lauded Rohit Sharma for giving opportunities to youngsters like Sarfaraz Khan who smashed fifty in his test debut at Rajkot and Dhruv Jurel who earned the Player of the Match award in Ranchi for his impressive knock in 90.
“I want to give credit to Rohit Sharma. He first gave Sarfaraz the chance and then made Jurel part of the team,” said the former India batter.
He is also credited with bringing Mohammad Siraj into the squad and resting Bumrah for the fourth test to manage his workload.
India and England will be playing their fifth test match on March 07 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.
