The Indian-America Cricketer and USA Captain Monank Patel stunned the World after the side’s win over Pakistan on June 06. The Co-hosts of the T20 World Cup 2024 defeated Pakistan in the Super Over to register their second win of the campaign.
The US captain played a key role during the match smashing 50 runs on 38 deliveries including 07 fours and 01 six. Monank Patel took over the captaincy to lead a maiden series win against Bangladesh before the start of the T20 World Cup which is the first time for the USA to defeat a full-member team in a bilateral series.
Monank Patel’s Early Life and Cricketing Journey
Monank Patel was born on May 01, 1993, in Gujarat, India. His cricketing career started to take shape when he shifted to the USA in 2010. During his shift, he already had played the age group level cricket for the local sides in Gujarat.
He played in U-15 tournaments, but couldn’t shine in those days. He played in district levels and even led Anand district in the senior-level tournaments. During his age group tournaments, he played alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel, but couldn’t break into the senior team.
He opened a Chinese restaurant in South Carolina around 2016, but due to a slow run, he was forced to return to New Jersey and lived with his mother who was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
He was called up for the USA national team in 2018, but it took a year to play his first match in international cricket. During his first ODI match against PNG, Monank Patel scored 39 runs while scoring 9 runs during his T20 debut.
The COVID-19 Pandemic created some obstacles in his career as he was stuck in India for five months. He trained indoors during the pandemic
His Cricketing career in the 2024 season has been one of the best in the T20 format. His batting prowess proved to be a match for dangerous Pakistan’s pace attack. His stand during the match against Pakistan helped the side to tie the match in the chase of a 160-run target.
Despite the side’s positive start in the T20 World Cup campaign, Monank Patel is set to face one of his greatest challenges as they will be facing on June 12 in a Group A match. He will be looking forward to showing his motivation to the India team determined to make the USA one of the prominent teams in the Cricket world.
His self-belief and burning spirit have made his dreams come true as he led the USA to two consecutive wins in the T20 World Cup.
