Test
It nearly took three years for Virat Kohli to make his test debut in 2011 after his ODI appearance.
It is hard to forget the infamous tweet from Sanjay Manjrekar in 2012 where he criticized Virat Kohli’s test performance. Manjrekar said Kohli should be given one more Test “just to be sure he does not belong here”.
The aggressive batsman answered Manjrekar in his way by scoring a Test hundred in Australia by the end of the same month. He then sealed his spot in playing XI. He single-handedly defied Ryan Harris, Ben Hilfenhaus, Peter Siddle, and Nathan Lyon, scoring 116 while no other Indian batsman crossed 35.
- Virat Kohli has 29 centuries registered to himself in the Test format. He made his last test appearance during the second Test match of India’s South Africa tour in 2023.
- Recently he withdrew from the Test series on England’s India tour 2024 due to his family emergency.
T20I
Virat made his T20 debut on Jun 12, 2010, vs Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club. Kohli also found success in the T20 format by winning the Man of the Tournament twice at the ICC World T20 (in 2014 and 2016).
Virat Kohli made his last T20I appearance during the second and third matches of Afghanistan’s India tour 2024.
IPL
Virat made his IPL debut on Apr 18, 2008, in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. He remained as the team’s captain between 2013 -2021
Though he remains successful in International formats Virat still struggles to lift the maiden trophy for RCB in IPL.

Kohli as Captain
Kohli was appointed the vice-captain of the ODI team in 2012 and handed over the Test captaincy following MS Dhoni’s Test retirement in 2014.
In early 2017, he became the limited-overs captain as well after Dhoni stepped down from the position. In ODIs, Kohli has the second-highest number of centuries and the highest number of centuries in run-chases in the world.
In September 2021, Kohli announced that he would step down as India’s T20I captain following the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In December 2021, Kohli was replaced by Rohit Sharma as India’s ODI captain.
On 15 January 2022, a day after India lost the series 2-1 to South Africa in January 2022, Kohli resigned as the Test captain.

Virat’s Promotion as Father
Beyond his national and social work, Virat gets a new promotion as a “father”. Virat Kohli ties the knot with Indian actress Anushka Sharma on 11 December 2017 in Tuscany. On 2020, August 27 Virat and Anushka announce that they are expecting their first child together.

Post the announcement Virat moves to UAE along with Anushka to take part in the IPL 2020. He leads RCB in IPL 2020 and also faces the same fate as in previous IPL seasons.
India tour of Australia
After the completion of IPL 2020, Virat along with the Indian team moves to Australia to play 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is, and 4 Test matches.
India lost the ODI series in Australia and won the T20I series against the host. India set to play 4 test matches against the men in yellow where Virat captains the first test match and leaves for India to be with his wife for their first baby birth.

Virat who expects his first child in January has been given paternity leave by BCCI. According to Virat Kohli left Australia after the completion of the 1st Test the match where India lost by 8 wickets.

Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli were blessed with a baby girl
Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma are blessed with a baby girl. Anushka Sharma gave birth at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 11.
“We are thrilled to share with you that we have been blessed with a baby girl this afternoon. We thank you all for your love, prayers, and good wishes. Anushka and the baby are both healthy and we are feeling beyond blessed to start this new chapter of our lives. We hope you can respect our privacy at this time,” Virat wrote in a social media post.

Virat Kohli Reaches Chennai
Post the baby birth celebration Indian skipper Virat Kohli turns back to serve his country. Virat Kohli reached Chennai on 27-01-2021 to lead India in the England Test series. The first two Test matches against England are set to be played behind closed doors at M A Chidambaram stadium from February 5.
The Indian skipper was spotted at Mumbai airport leaving for Chennai. Post Chennai arrival both the team members are isolated under COVID-19 restrictions in the hotel. Virat Kohli trains hard in his hotel room ahead of the Test series vs England.

ICC T20 WC 2021 Elimination
Virat Kohli along with Anushka Sharma and Vamika returned to Mumbai after the team India got eliminated from ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
Virat Kohli has been given rest by BCCI for the New Zealand T20I series and is expected to join the team for the 2nd Test match against New Zealand at Mumbai. Notably, ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is the last match for Virat Kohli as T20I captain.

Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma Reach Paris For A Vacation
Posy his Captaincy stint, Virat struggles to find his form back in the international format as well as in IPL format. Virat Kohli missed the home series against South Africa and Ireland tour and was included in the England tour.

Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma welcome their boy baby at London
Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were blessed with a baby boy on February 15, 2024, and named him “Akaay” after Lord Shiva.
After withdrawing from England’s tour of India in 2024, Virat Kohli was said to be out of the country due to a family emergency. AB de Villiers revealed that Virat is expecting his second baby on February 08 on his YouTube channel.
