The Asia Cup 2023 is set to be hosted by Pakistan, but after India refused to travel to Pakistan hybrid model was adopted where India matches will be played in Sri Lanka.
Nine out of 13 matches played in Sri Lanka while four matches were hosted in Pakistan. Eventually India won the finals against Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.
Will India Play Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan?
Eversince ICC announced in 2021 that Pakistan will be hosting the Champions Trophy 2025, there has been speculation on whether India will be travelling to Pakistan to play in the ICC event.
However, BCCI has refused to send Indian Cricket team to Pakistan and proposed a hybrid model. On the other hand, Pakistan is reluctant to hosting the tournament with the country itself.
But with ICC’s intervention, Pakistan has accepted to adopt hybrid model for the tournament with several conditions and hence, India’s matches are likely to be played in UAE.
When did Pakistan hosted an ICC Tournament?
Pakistan has co hosted the ODI World Cup 1996, which remains the last time an ICC event was played in the country. The jointly hosted the tournament, alongside Sri Lanka and India.
After winning the 1992 ODI World Cup, Pakistan were give the right to cohost the 1996 edition. Since then, the country has not seen an ICC event take place for the last 28 years.
