Pat Cummins on Winning Ashes 2023: Though the England cricket team won the final Test game of the Ashes 2023, Australia retained the URN after the 5-match Test series ended as a draw.
Pat Cummins on Winning Ashes 2023
Australia win the first two games and made a series lead but the England cricket team won the 3rd Test and prevents the Aussies from winning the Ashes series. Unfortunately, the 4th Test resulted in a draw and scattered the host’s dream of winning the URN.
Right after the rain forced the 4th test to result in a draw, Australia retained the trophy but England clinch a thriller win in the 5th test to draw Ashes 2-2.
Following the victory, Australian captain Pat Cummins opens up about the series’ results. Pat Cummins said: “I think so (that 2-2 is a fair result). Two really high-quality teams and it was a wonderful series to be part of. I didn’t even entertain the conversation of a draw, we were here to win the Ashes and it was a great day of Test cricket”
“We can be hugely proud of retaining the Ashes, not easy to do that against a quality England side. There were so many moments in this series, that’s what makes Ashes so special, the crowd and the pressure, a couple of moments if you could change then the result would have been different. Great competitor, always saves his best for Australia, he has had some hard days in Australia but always keeps coming and I wish him all the best”.
With the victory, Australia remains at the top of the Ashes winners list. Australia has won the Ashes trophy for the most number of times. Australia has won/retained the Ashes trophy 40 times while England won/retained the Ashes 33 times out of 73 played so far.
Australia will now tour South Africa to play 3 T20Is and 5 ODI games between August 30 to September 17. While England will host New Zealand to play 4 T20Is and 4 ODI games between August 30 to September 15.
