Australia is scheduled to play their first World Cup 2023 match against India on October 08 at MA Chidambaram Stadium. The match kickstarted at 2:00 PM where Australia won the toss and opted to bat. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings while Jasprit Bumrah opened the bowling attack.

David Warner had a good start as he scored 41 runs and became the fastest player to score 1000 runs during the match against India. He completed the feat within 19 innings, averaging three half-centuries and four centuries since his appearance in the ICC event in 2011.

He has a strike rate of 98.12 in ODI World Cups, surpassing the joint record of Sachin Tendulkar and Ab de Villiers in 20 innings. He has a high score of 178 runs against Afghanistan and has won Player of the Match four times.

Despite David Warner’s good start, Mitchell Marsh was dismissed with a duck. Steven Smith scored 46 runs but other batters are sent out on regular intervals. Ravindra Jadeja dismissed three Wickets while Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets.

India and Australia recently played a three match ODI series where the former leads the series 2-1. On playing in Indian pitches, the Australian skipper Pat Cummins was confident about facing Indian spinners but struggled on facing spinners as they lost seven wickets on the 37th over scoring only 140 runs.

Australia has chosen Glenn Maxwell as the second spinner for the match against India. While speaking before the match he said, “I feel like the ball is coming out as well as it ever has. At this stage of my career, I don’t feel the need to train as much with my bowling. I have gained a clear understanding of how it is coming out and what I need to do.”

“There is always a fear mentally, But once I get moving, I’m absolutely fine. We tried a few things out. I had two different spells in the field against Pakistan and also did some bowling to see how my ankle would react when put under pressure,” he concluded.
