The Sri Lanka T20I skipper Wanindu Hasaranga has been handed a two-match suspension and a fine of 50% of the match fee for his outburst against umpire Lyndon Hannibal.

Wanindu Hasaranga receives two-match Suspension

Wanindu Hasaranga has been penalized for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct and has been handed a two-match ban after his demerit points reached the count of 5 within 24 months.

He received three demerit points with a fifty percent fine on the match fee previously which came to 5 demerit points after his dispute with umpire Lyndon Hannibal.

Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and player support personnel, which is related to “Personal abuse of a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire or Match Referee during an International Match.

His five demerit points have been converted into two suspension points which means he will be suspended for one test match or two ODIs or T20Is, whichever comes first.

He will be not playing in the first two matches of the T20I series against Bangladesh in Dambulla.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan player Rahmanullah Gurbaz has also been penalized and fined 15 percent of his match fee for breaching level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct 3rd T20I match of Afghanistan tour of Sri Lanka 2024.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was found in violation of article 2.4 of the code as “disobeying an umpire’s instruction during an International Match.”

One demerit point has been added to Rahmanullah’s disciplinary record, which features a second offense within 24 months bringing his total demerit points to two.

The sanction was imposed on Rahmanullah for altering the grip of his bat on the field despite repeated warnings against doing so.

Both players have admitted to the offenses and accepted the sanctions proposed by Chris Broad of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and formal hearings were deemed unnecessary.

The Charges were brought forth by on-field umpires Lyndon Hannibal and Raveendra Wimalasiri, third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge, and fourth umpire Ranmore Martinez.

Sri Lanka Secured victory in the three-match T20I series as Afghanistan won the final T20I match. Wanindu Hasaranga was awarded the Player of the Series in the home tour.

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are set to play a three-match T20I and ODI series, two-match test series starting on March 04. The first T20I match will kickstart at 05:30 PM IST at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
