Walter Chawaguta named as Zimbabwe’s Interim Head coach ahead of Sri Lanka tour

Zimbabwe Cricket has named Walter Chawaguta as the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team’s interim Head Coach for their upcoming white-ball tour of Sri Lanka in January.

The Zimbabwe Cricket Board has appointed Walter Chawaguta as the interim head coach for the Men’s team ahead of the Sri Lanka tour.

He will lead a technical team that includes Stuart Matsikenyeri (Assistant Coach/Batting Coach), Steve Kirby (Bowling Coach), Erick Chauluka (Fielding Coach), Walter Karimanzira (Fitness and Conditioning Trainer), Amato Machikicho (Physiotherapist), Alistair Chambe (Team Doctor) and Mufaro Chiturumani (Analyst).

The side is scheduled to play in three ODIs and three T20Is which is scheduled to play in the Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka between January 6 and 18. Darlington Majonga will be playing a double role as Team manager and Media Manager, while Lovemore Banda will be the logistics Manager.

Chawaguta has already served as Zimbabwe’s Head Coach in 2008. Currently, he is in charge at the Provincial first-class side Tuskers, while he also served as a batting consultant for the Zimbabwe Senior Women’s National team.

Zimbabwe had recently concluded a three-match T20Is and ODIs in Ireland tour of Zimbabwe where they suffered defeat in the tour.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka hasn’t played since the World Cup 2023 and will be playing against Zimbabwe in the home tour.

The Zimbabwe tour of Sri Lanka will feature a fresh start for the Sri Lanka side after their side’s loss in the World Cup 2023.

The first ODI match between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will be played on January 06 and all the matches will be played in R. Premadasa Stadium.
