Virat-Rohit set to become the fastest pair to score 5000 ODI runs

Ahead of ODI against West Indies, Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli together set to create a record in the 50-over format. The duo has wonders for the Indian team, and they are 2 runs away from completing their 5000 runs in ODI cricket as a pair.

Going by the form Kohli has been in the 50-over format, Kohli is expected to perform an extraordinary inning tonight. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma’s performance in the Test series against West Indies created an eagerness to see Rohit’s performance in the ODI series.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have shared a partnership score of 4998 runs in the ODI format. The duo needs just two more runs to complete a partnership of 5,000 runs in the ODI format. With that, the batting pair will become the pair to record 5,000 runs partnership in the lowest number of matches in the history of cricket.

The Indian pair has played a total of 85 innings as partners, averaging 62.47 where they have scored a total of 18 centuries and 15 half-centuries.

The record of the quickest 5000 runs in ODI cricket as a pair is held by West Indies’ Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes who reached the milestone in 97 innings.

Following them Australia’s Matthew Hayden-Adam Gilchrist stands second in the list with 104 innings and Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan-Kumar Sangakkara with 105 innings.

But, among the pairs who scored more than 4000 runs in ODIs, the Kohli-Rohit pair stands on top that averages more than 60.

When it comes to overall, Kohli-Rohit is on the 8th spot in terms of pairs with the most runs in ODI cricket. The iconic duo of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly leads the list with 8227 runs as a pair.

With the World Cup on the line, India has started its preparation as they meet West Indies in ODI format on the WI tour 2023.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is set to surpass all-time cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Ricky Ponting in another individual record.

Rohit has currently scored 9825 runs in the 50-over format for India and is only 175 runs away from reaching 10,000 runs in ODI. Against the ODI series in West Indies, he will find himself in the second position to the number.

The List is led by Virat Kohli who had completed 10000 runs in ODI cricket in 205 innings. Rohit had played 236 innings in ODI cricket thus he won’t placed ahead of Virat Kohli.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli needs 102 runs to complete 13,000 runs in ODIs, which will make him the fifth batter and second from India after Sachin Tendulkar to reach this milestone.

Sachin Tendulkar (18,426) is the highest run-getter in the history of ODI cricket, followed by Kumar Sangakkara (14,234), Ricky Ponting (13,704), Sanath Jayasuriya (13,430) and Virat Kohli (12,898).

If Virat Kohli completes 13,000 ODI runs, he will break Sachin’s record (321 innings) by becoming the fastest batter to ever achieve this record where Virat Kohli has played only 265 innings in ODIs.
