Indian star batter Virat Kohli who missed the first two tests of the England tour of India 2024 is set to miss the upcoming tests at Rajkot and Ranchi.
Virat Kohli to miss Rajkot and Ranchi Tests
A total of 5 tests were scheduled to be played between the two teams during the series. Initially, Virat Kohli was named in the India squad for the series and was expected to scatter some records in the red ball series on the home turf.
But unfortunately, Virat Kohli was pulled out of the first two matches of the series and was expected to be back for the remaining of the tests. But the latest reports confirm that Virat Kohli will miss the next two tests of the series.
It was on January 22, three days from the start of the England series, that the BCCI announced that Kohli had pulled out of the first two Tests for “personal reasons”. Kohli had landed in Hyderabad the same morning to join the Indian squad but flew out the same day.
The BCCI has not made any further comment on Kohli’s absence since that statement, which said: “Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasised that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention.”
Virat Kohli is just 152 runs away from scoring his 9000 runs mark in the Test format. Virat Kohli who scored 29 test centuries still needs 3 centuries to level the record for active player with most Test centuries as of now.
Speaking on the IND vs ENG Test series, India lost the 1st match of the series by 28 runs and made a bounce back in the 2nd test and won the game by 106 runs. With the victory in the 2nd test, India levelled the 5-match series by 1-1 with 3 matches set to be played.
The third Test of the series will be played between February 15 to 19 at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
