The Indian Cricketer Virat Kohli will be likely ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 hosted by the USA and the Caribbean.
Virat Kohli Likely to be Ruled Out of T20 World Cup 2024
According to reports, the BCCI selectors are not happy with Virat Kohli being continuously absent from the team.
He almost took 18 months gap to play in the short format before playing in the T20I series on Afghanistan’s tour of India 2024. He played only two matches and scored only 29 and 0 on the home tour.
With Jay Shah confirming Rohit Sharma to captain the side for the upcoming World Cup campaign, Virat Kohli’s participation is not confirmed.
According to some reports, the selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar is not clear on picking Virat Kohli for the T20 World Cup as the star has failed to cope with the team’s needs in the shortest format.
However, BCCI has left the decision of Virat Kohli’s participation in World Cup 2024 to chief selector Ajit Agarkar.
With India in a trophy drought since 2013, the selectors are willing to take some big calls for the upcoming event.
Virat Kohli could put himself in contention for the tournament only if he has an impressive campaign in the IPL 2024 season. Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube are above Virat Kohli to be included in the squad.
“It is also believed that the slow wickets in the West Indies wouldn’t suit him. The selectors have been toying with the idea for some time now and there has been nothing to suggest about a change in plans,” stated the report.
India’s provisional squad for the World Cup 2024 will be named in the first week of May. India is placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Ireland, USA, and Canada.
India will be playing their first match of the World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 05 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
