The Indian star Virat Kohli was booed by Aussie fans and was involved in a heated exchange after his dismissal on day 02 of the fourth test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The incident occured while he was walking back to the pavilion at Melbourne.
After a part of the fans provoked Kohli after his dismissal, he turned around after entering the MCG tunnel and proceeded to stare down the people. Before things got out of hand, a member of the MCG arrived at the place and calmed Virat Kohli down taking him through the tunnel.
This was due to an altercation Kohli had with Sam Konstas on day 01 of the test.
The incident occured after the 10th over of the morning when Kohli and Konstas bumped shoulders while moving across the pitch once the over ended.
Both players looked back for a death stare and exchanged words before Konstas’ partner Usman Khawaja came in between, although the verbal dual didn’t last long.
Replays emerged later showed that Konstas had turned around from the crease and was walking straight towards the other end whereas Kohli while tossing the ball in his hand went from way outside the pitch straight towards Konstas and bumped into him.
Match officials intervened to calm things further. “Have a look where Virat walks. Virat walked one whole pitch over to his right and instigated that confrontation. No doubt in my mind whatsoever,” Ricky Ponting said in the commentary.
Australia batted first and scored a mammoth total of 474 with Bumrah picking four wickets while Jadeja and Akash Deep picking three and two wickets.
Virat Kohli batted well in India’s first innings of the match along with Jaiswal. But after the 100 run partnership, the duo fell one after other putting pressure on India as the visitors ended the day 02 with the figures of 164/5 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
