Ahead of Asia Cup 2023, Virat Kohli has proved his fitness by taking the Yo-Yo fitness and passing it with distinction. At the age of 34, Virat Kohli is currently stepping into the 16th year of his international cricket career and remains one of the icons for fitness in cricket fields.
Virat Kohli announces his Yo-Yo Test score
Virat Kohli one of the impressive batters who have been a fitness freak always tends to push him beyond his limits. He is widely known as one of the best cricketers in the world. He took the Yo-Yo fitness test on Thursday and passed with distinction. He posted a photo right after his fitness test on Instagram to announce his yo-yo fitness score of 17.2.
Virat has earned a badge of honor for maintaining his fitness throughout his career. There are only a few occasions when Virat Kohli has missed a game in international cricket for India. He has inspired many young players through his fitness.
He had already achieved a score of 19 when the yo-yo test was considered one of the mandatory procedures for India’s men’s cricket team. But he has passed the standard score of Indian cricket 16.
He said, “The happiness of finishing the yo-yo test between the dreaded cones.”
Yo-Yo test became important in Indian cricket to sustain their position. It involves an aerobic fitness test for players seeking an opportunity at any level. The Yo-Yo test is done to check the player’s fitness by taking a run for about 20 meters.
The current benchmark yo-yo score for the Indian team is 16.2. Under former head coach Ravi Shastri and captain Virat Kohli, Yo-Yo test scores were a mandatory factor for team selection. This has improved the fitness of the players.
Virat Kohli has not played in the T20I series against West Indies and Ireland and he is preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup. India will be set to take on their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 at Pallekele International Stadium.
Despite his presence in the squad on the West Indies tour in test and ODI format, he didn’t get his chance to bat as team management wanted to experiment on young players. The senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were rested from the second ODI game against West Indies.
Asia Cup 2023
The 16th edition of the Asia Cup tournament is scheduled to play between August – September and will be jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As per the Asia Cup 2023 schedule, the first match will be played between Pakistan and Nepal on August 30 at Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan.
The tournament will be played between the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council. The 2023 ACC Men’s Premier Cup winner Nepal will join India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
The participating 6 teams will be categorized into 2 groups of three teams where the top 2 teams of the Asia Cup 2023 points table will advance to the Super Four round(of each group). The final of the tournament will be played between the top two teams of the Super 4 round.
