Due to continuous rain pouring in Florida, the USA chances for Super 8s shine bright as the T20 World Cup 2024 match between the US and Ireland is likely to be abandoned.
The co-hosts, the United States are scheduled to play against Ireland on June 14 at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida. The match was scheduled to kickstart at 8:00 PM IST, but due to rain the toss has been delayed and the match was rescheduled to start at 9:00 PM IST. On Wednesday, Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal was called off due to rain and the match couldn’t be started till the cut-off time.
According to the ICC regulations, the cutoff time for the five-over game is 11:45 PM IST. If the game gets washed out the USA will be qualified for the Super Eight stage alongside India from Group A.
If the game is called off, the match will be declared as a draw and both Ireland and US will gain one point each. This would bring a tally of five points to the US which guarantees second place for the US in Group A.
Other teams like Ireland, Pakistan, and Canada will be eliminated from the competition. India has won all three group stage matches and booked their spot as the top team in the Group A points table.
South Africa, West Indies, Australia, India, and Afghanistan qualified for the next stage, US might be the sixth team to join the group.
