The batter Uday Saharan will be leading India’s ICC U-19 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to start in January 2024.
India’s 2024 U-19 World Cup captain
Punjab batter Uday Saharan will be captaining the U-19 squad for the upcoming World Cup 2024 which will be played in South Africa. The World Cup was originally planned to be hosted by Sri Lanka but was shifted to South Africa due to the suspension of the Sri Lanka cricket board.
India is the most successful country in the tournament’s history having won it five times in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022.
Recently, the Indian side is playing at the under-19 Asia Cup in Dubai and was the highest scorer at the under-19 Challenger Trophy held in Guwahati last month. He amassed a total of 297 runs in four innings, with four half-centuries and an unbeaten 93 not out.
The tournament featured 45 players who were competing to take part in the upcoming World Cup and were picked by India’s junior selection Panel by former Karnataka wicketkeeper Thilak Naidu.
All-rounder Musheer Khan who bats in the middle order and bowls left-arm spin is the only player in the squad for the first-class experience. On the other hand, Musheer, the younger brother of Sarfaraz Khan played for India in the 2014 and 2016 under-19 World Cups.
Musheer had scored 127 off 47 deliveries and dismissed two batters during the quadrangular U-19 series match in November. He was the third-highest run scorer in the Under-19 Challenger Trophy with 268 runs at a strike rate of 108.
He led Mumbai on the Cooch Behar Trophy where he was named Player of the tournament for his 670 runs and 32 wickets. His Ranji trophy debut was against Saurashtra where he amassed a total of 35 and finally, Saurashtra won the match by 48 runs.
Arshin Kulkarni was another inspiring talent who played in the Maharashtra Premier League. He bowls medium pace and is a top-order batter and played for Maharashtra in the recently concluded Syed Maharashtra. He was one of the uncapped Indian players in the IPL 2024 auction.
Before the World Cup, India will play a U-19 tri-series against the hosts South Africa and England between December 29 to January 10. India is in Group A along with Bangladesh, Ireland, and USA at the World Cup.
