With the clash between the Indian Premier League and general election dates, BCCI is considering hosting the second half of the IPL 2024 season in Dubai.
UAE likely to host second leg of IPL 2024
According to reports, BCCI officials are in Dubai, exploring the venues for staging IPL matches in UAE. IPL teams have instructed their players to submit their passports, which indicates the venue shift outside India.
According to a statement from sources, “The Election Commission of India will announce the election schedule on Saturday at 3 pm.”
“After that, the BCCI will decide whether IPL matches should be moved to Dubai. Currently, a few top BCCI officials are in Dubai to explore the possibility of organizing the second half of the IPL in Dubai.”
Back in IPL 2014, the first half of the tournament was also held in UAE due to the election.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to commence on March 22. A total of 10 teams will participate in the league with each team playing with the other nine teams in home and away games.
The top four teams will be qualifying for the playoff. The top two teams will be playing in qualifiers one and the winner will secure a spot in the finals. on the other hand, the third and fourth teams will compete in the eliminator.
The winner of the eliminator will be competing against the team that lost qualifier one in qualifier 2. The winner will be the second finalist of the finals.
Due to the IPL and election dates collision, BCCI has announced only the first half of the IPL 2024 schedule.
The board stated that the remaining fixtures will be revealed after the announcement of the election dates. The Elections Commission of India will be announcing the dates for the election on Saturday at 3 PM.
Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be playing in the first match of the tournament on March 22 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
