Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli following their repeated failures in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Right after India lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Rohit Sharma and Co received multiple allegations from former cricketers and cricket experts. In particular, Indian captain Rohit Sharma and senior batter Virat Kohli received criticism for their poor performance.
In the BGT 2024-25, Rohit only scored 31 runs at an average of just 6.20 in the five innings while Virat scored 190 runs at an average of 23.75 in nine innings.
With the failure of Indian star batters, Australia regained Border Gavaskar Trophy after 10 years as they defeated India by 3-1 in the five-match series. Following the defeat, many rumours started to spread regarding the senior batters’ retirement.
Now, former Indian allrounder Yuvraj Singh came forward in support of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and said “People forget what they have achieved in the past”.
“I look at what India has achieved in the last 5-6 years. They have achieved two back-to-back victories in Australia. I don’t remember any team doing that. People are criticizing Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli a lot, but people forget what they have achieved in the past. They are two of the greatest cricketers of this time. It’s ok they lost, they are more hurt than us. I am sure India will bounce back,” Yuvraj Singh told PTI.
“Gautam Gambhir as coach, Ajit Agarkar as selector, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, they are the best minds in cricket right now. And they have to decide what the future of Indian cricket is. I am sure this will be discussed with BCCI, with Jay Shah and taken into consideration that what is the best way for India to move forward,” he added.
