Tristan Stubbs and Temba Bavuma scored twin centuries to break Jacques Kallis and Ab de Villiers’ 12-year-old record and helped the side set a target of 516 wins against Sri Lanka.
Stubbs (122) and Bavuma (113) forged a fourth-wicket partnership of 249, turning down Sri Lanka Bowlers’ attack plan.
South Africa declared their second innings at 366 for five at tea break, setting a mammoth target against Sri Lanka.
“I never felt I was really in; I had to stick to my game plan and be really disciplined. You couldn’t hit on the up really,” he said.
Despite joining Delhi Capitals Squad for INR 10 crore during the IPL 2025 auction, Stubbs explained that his six hitting ability is a relatively new skill.
“Through school and university, I was a nudger,” he said. “Since Covid, I got a bit stronger and then I could really hit the ball. I had to find the balance, which took some time.

“I prefer the red-ball game. You can bat for long. It’s a lot more of a mental game. I’ve played very little red-ball cricket, so I’m always learning. But I love it and am just trying to grow as quickly as I can.”
Meanwhile, Bavuma echoed Stubbs’ difficulty of batting conditions. “It forced you to stay in your plan,” he said.
South Africa are currently placed fifth in the points table with 52 points and a point’s percentage of 54.17 and are contention to make it for the finals spot. India and Australia are first and second in the list.
Sri Lanka continued to bat and scored 103 runs for 5 wickets with Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva were standing at the crease by the end of day 03 at Kingsmead.
