New Zealand is scheduled to play in the 41st World Cup match of the edition 2023 against Sri Lanka where Black Caps won the match with 5 wickets. Trent Boult was impressive during the match as he dismissed three wickets helping the side to fold Sri Lanka for low scores.
Winning the toss, New Zealand chose to bowl where Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera opened the innings while Boult opened the bowling attack. With the dismissal of Nissanka for 2 runs by Tim Southee, Kusal Mendis was dismissed for 6 runs.
Boult dismissed Kusal Mendis and Samarawickrama in the fifth over of the innings. With the dismissal of Asalanka for 8 runs, Trent Boult collapsed the top order of the Sri Lankan squad.
Kusal Perera helped the side by scoring 51 runs on 28 deliveries but his dismissal by Lockie Ferguson made the side run low score innings during the match. Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva scored 16 and 19 runs respectively and were sent out by Santner.
With the dismissal of Karunaratne for 6 runs by Lockie, Chameera, and Dilshan Madushanka was dismissed by Rachin Ravindra. By the 47th over, Sri Lanka lost all 10 wickets and scored 171 runs.
With the target of 172 runs, New Zealand had quite an impressive start as they scored 70 runs at the end of 10 overs. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra opened the innings where Conway scored 45 runs while Rachin scored 42 runs.
With his 42 runs Rachin Ravindra amassed 565 runs in the World cup and tops the list of highest run getters in maiden World Cup.
With the dismissal of Kane Williamson for 14 runs, Daryl Mitchell scored 43 runs to help the side for a quick victory. Mark was sent out on a runout for 7 runs and with Glenn Phillips’ score of 17 runs, New Zealand assured the victory and completed their final group stage match in the World Cup 2023.
Trent Boult was named as the Player of the Match. While speaking after the match he said, “Nice to get a bit of success at the top there (new ball). Big game, a must-win game for us, pleasure is getting that result, yeah a good night. It’s a challenging format, a challenging part of the world to open the bowling.
I feel like I’ve used my experience in some parts of the game. Nice to be on a decent side of it tonight. Always the biggest challenge here (India) is to come across different conditions and conditions that change throughout the tournament.
Everyone wants a piece of the host nation, they are playing phenomenal cricket. Time will tell what will happen there (playing India in the semifinal). I am sure it will be an exciting game,” he concluded.
With their victory in the M. Chinnaswamy stadium, New Zealand registers their fifth victory in the World Cup 2023.
