All-rounder Tilak Varma suffered an injury during India’s 11-run win on the 3rd T20I on India’s tour of South Africa 2024 where he was named as the Player of the Match.
After the match, the 22-year-old left-handed batsman shared an update on his head injury after India took a 2-1 lead in the three-match ODI series against South Africa.
In the last over of the Proteas run chase, Tilak banged the banged back of his head on the ground while trying to take a catch off Arshdeep Singh.
He could not save the six, after which he landed on his head. The Physio checked for his concussion, after which he continued the match.
Tilak said that he found it tough to take the catch since the ball came ‘through the lights.’
Speaking on the post match conference, Tilak Varma said, “I am okay, the catch came through the lights, so a little difficult but happy for the win.”
He also thanked T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav for showing faith in him and promoted him to No.3.
“I couldn’t imagine and I cannot put down in words. It was my dream and it was the right time to score a hundred for my team. A kind of a decider in the series. Under the pressure, it was a good knock. All credit goes to captain Suryakumar Yadav. He has given me an opportunity (at three),” Tilak added.
Tilak Varma has smacked a stunning 107* runs while Abhishek Sharma smashed a fifty on India’s 219 total for six, after they restricted Proteas for 208 runs for seven. Marco Jansen put up a pressure on Indian bowlers with a 16-ball fifty, but India managed to win the match after bowling in death overs.
Arsdheep Singh picked 3/37 figures during the match. Leading the series 2-1, Suryakumar-led India will be looking to claim the series with a win on 4th T20I on November 15 at Wanderers Stadium.
