The India batter Tilak Varma has recently become the first batter to score three consecutive centuries in the T20 format. The 22-year-old achieved the feat for Hyderabad during the SMAT 2024 match against Meghalaya.
He opened his tournament campaign with a century against Meghalaya on November 23 and continued to collect 151 runs in 67 deliveries as he took Hyderabad to score 284/4.
Tilak Varma’s knock is also the highest individual score by a player in the tournament’s history.
After smashing back to back centuries in the third and fourth T20I match of India’s tour of South Africa, he smashed his third consecutive T20 century.
The 22 year old scored 107* runs in the third T20I and 120* runs in 4th T20I helping the side to clinch 3-1 series.
He was named as the Player of the series. While speaking at the post match conference he thanked Suryakumar Yadav helping the side.
“I am okay. It was a difficult chance but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it.”

“The pitch was two-paced to start with and it wasn’t easy for the new batters coming in when Abhishek got out. I was ready to bat long and was waiting for one,” Tilak Varma said in the post-match presentation.
Tilak Varma’s 151 runs saw him smash 14 boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 225.37. With his batting prowess, along with Tanmay Agarwal who samshed 55 from 23 ball and helped the side to register a comfortable 179 run victory over Meghalaya to open their SMAT 2024.
Recently, he climbed several spot to secured third spot in ICC batter rankings and trails behind Travis Head and Phil Salt in the T20I format.
