“That Could be the Last,” Dinesh Karthik on IPL Retirement Plan

The Royal Challengers Bangalore WK-Batter Dinesh Karthik has hinted at his IPL retirement play following their defeat in the first match of the IPL 2024 schedule.

Dinesh Karthik has indicated that he’ll be retiring from IPL after this season following the match against CSK at Chepauk. He said that it could be his last match at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium after CSK won the match by 6 wickets.

He has been a constant figure in the IPL since the introduction of the cash-rich league. He has played for six teams in the league and also captained KKR in previous seasons.

Before the start of the IPL 2024 campaign, Dinesh Karthik said that he would be focussing on commentators’ work. While asked if this could be his last match at Chennai Stadium, he replied that he hopes to come back for the playoffs, if it is being held in Chennai.

“That’s a great question. I genuinely wish it was not because a couple of matches of the Playoffs could be here. If I come back for that, that could be the last. Otherwise, I think it could be,” said Karthik.

DK was on the Commentary panel during the test series on England’s tour of India and left the panel midway to start his preparations for the IPL.

He was impressive during the first match of the 2024 season, smashing 38 runs on 26 deliveries. But CSK won the match by six wickets.

Dinesh Karthik said that it was very challenging to focus on both commentary works and preparations for the IPL.

“Extremely challenging. Doing a bit of commentary and practicing cricket in between Test matches and in between the time that you get has been a lot of hard work. I am happy that game 1 has gone positively for me and it feels good to score some runs,” said Karthik.

With Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings buckling up to play in the second match of the IPL 2024 campaign, we have updated the pitch report of the stadium and probable 11 of the match.

The second match will kickstart at 03:30 PM at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
